We interrupt this broadcast to share some breaking news from our capital city:
LONDON IS UP IN FLAMES!
In the early hours of the morning, a fire broke out in East London. Although it is yet to be confirmed, early reports suggest that the fire originated in the bakery.
Can your pupils write and perform a live news report from the scene of the Great Fire of London?
This Unit of Work is aimed specifically at Key Stage 1 but can be adapted for Lower Key Stage 2.
Through reading, deconstructing and then writing a news report, children will create their own live news broadcast from the scene of the Great Fire of London.
The pack provides high-quality comprehension activities to inform the pupil’s writing. There are step-by-step guides for every app suggested. You do not need iPads to use the pack however these devices do enhance the performance element.
The aim is to cover all elements of the English curriculum in an engaging and purposeful way using a variety of media. It also aims to foster within children their love of history and help them to understand how it has moulded the world we live in today.
With an additional focus on Fluency for Meaning, this pack will help your learners appreciate the role of the narrator more fully. It will support them as they gain a better understanding of the narrator's role when reading aloud and help them to reflect upon how their voice can be used effectively, not simply to convey what is happening but also to bring the text to life.
The pack also contains contextualised SPaG sessions that focus on simple conjunctions and how this helps them to extend their sentences to provide more information.
